We felt like a Thai meal in the Blue Mountains and found that Basil Nut Cafe and Restaurant was on some list of places to check out so we headed there for a meal with friends.
While the cafe (by day)/restaurant (by night) can be accessed from the main street, it’s not near the main part of Katoomba and not visible from the main street. If you are driving there it’s probably easier to access it via the car park (Woolworths, Kmart and Target) and there should be plenty of parking available.
They have IKEA cutlery and plates available for kids so it was great for Little Whimsy who decided it was fun to throw the cutlery on the floor.
They have two small dining areas and some seats available just outside the café. We were seated near the front door as it was one of the larger tables available which was slightly frustrating because the door would hit the back of one of the chairs. It’s also not a child friendly place as there isn’t much room to move around.
There are plenty of choices on the menu. We ordered the pad Thai, the fresh chili tofu, pad see-ew beef and the masamam lamb curry plus a few starters to get us going.
The presentation of the food was great and the food looked vibrant and inviting.
The portion size was ok if you ordered a few starters to go with the main meal but I don’t think you would be full from just eating a main.
They cater for vegetarians and gluten free meals by indicating which dishes could adapted on the menu.
The place isn’t great for large groups but for smaller groups or couples it would be a good place to check out.
